What card is this?
Every Pokémon card carries a number that identifies it exactly. Here's where to find it.
Where to look
- 1The name, across the topUsually enough on its own. “Umbreon VMAX” finds the card; adding the set narrows it.
- 2The number, in a bottom cornerModern cards print it bottom-left, cards before about 2011 bottom-right. It looks like 199/165 or TG20/TG30. This identifies the card exactly — type it in the box above.
- 3The set symbol, next to the numberA small logo saying which set the card came from. You don’t need it if you have the number.
Why is my number bigger than the set?
If your card says 199/165 — a number higher than the set’s size — you have a secret rare. They’re printed beyond the numbered checklist and are usually the most valuable cards in the set. A number inside the range, like 4/102, is a normal checklist card, which says nothing about whether it’s worth anything.
No number on the card?
Promos and some older cards don’t carry one. Search the name instead, and add anything else printed on it — “charizard base set”, “pikachu black star promo”. Energy cards from a booster are usually unnumbered and generally aren’t worth looking up.
